Rio de Janeiro, 1968. Carolina (Débora Falabella) dances ballet, goes to demonstrations, discovers love with the idealistic Luiz Cláudio (Rodrigo Santoro), dreams of having a perfect future. As an 18-year-old, she has no doubts: "Life is like a movie we see in the theater." In the movie of her life, Carolina doesn't want to become an actress – she wants to be the character of a great story, her story. Rio de Janeiro, 32 years later. In front of a mirror, Carolina (Marieta Severo) works out to keep herself in shape. She is still married to her first love, she has always lived in the same place, her four children have grown and left to live their own lives. Luiz Cláudio decides to sell the apartment, move into a hotel residence, and make his juvenile dream come true: To visit Cuba. However, for Carolina, things are not that simple. At 55, she is facing a crisis in her marriage, an empty home, her age, and starts to express doubts about the path she followed, her options and expectations, to consider the many "ifs" left behind along the way. Through confrontation and dialogue with the young woman she was at 18, Carolina lives once more the dreams of the past and the possibilities of having being other characters, having followed other paths, having known other lovers. In her maturity, Carolina will fully experience the privilege of reviewing her own story and meeting herself again in what she has been, in what she hasn't been, and in what she could have been – together or away from the great love of her life.
